SharePoint Server 2007: Install on a Domain Controller Workaround

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

I am posting this link for my own reference as well as others since I have found myself checking back through old messages once again.

If you are installing Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 in stand alone mode on a domain controller (note this isn’t by any means a best practice but decent for testing) then you will have to run a workaround script or else you will receive an error when accessing portal.

The error message will be “The trial period for this product has expired.”

The workaround download is available on the Microsoft site here.

Team System Resource List

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

For those of you that attended the Team System Birds of a Feather yesterday by Joel Semeniuk (standing room only!), it looks as though Adam Gallant has posted an extensive list of Team System resources on his blog that is definitely worth checking out.

Tech Ed 2006: Did I Mention I’ll Be There?

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

So Shane and I touched down today in Boston after an “interesting” flight.  I will let you go to his blog to read about that.  We are here of course for Tech Ed 2006 along with apparently many thousand other excited little geeks.  I have been extremely busy for the past month in preparation for this along with some other projects but I have to say I am starting to get pretty excited.

Tomorrow I get to kick off the week at the Microsoft Waltham office where we are having the Northeast Region Community Leadership Summit.  This is one of many exciting things INETA is doing at Tech Ed this year.  I can’t wait to finally meet some of the people that will be attending as up until now the closest I have gotten is a conference call.

Shane and I are actually staying in Waltham tonight which is a nice cool down before the crazy hits us tomorrow night when Tech Ed officially kicks off.  Just me, him and the hockey game.  The perfect evening.

Tomorrow night we get to see Ray Ozzie along with Chris Capossela & Bob Muglia open the conference up with what should be a very exciting and fascinating keynote.  I love that IW owns the theme of the evening.

Monday night we have the Boston Area Mega User Group meeting in Room 251 at the Conference Center at 6:30.  Come meet and mingle amongst what should be a pretty big crowd.  The evening is going to feature a panel based discussion which will be both fun and interesting.  I will be there of course – so if you attend be sure to come by and introduce yourself..

Throughout the week I will be also hanging out at the INETA booth and helping out with the Birds of a Feather sessions.  You will also definitely see me fitting in whatever technical sessions I can of course on anything related to SharePoint 2007.  I did the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 self assessment on the MS site last week and only scored 73% so apparently I still have quite a ways to go.  :-)

Finally one of the coolest things I have found out so far today is that every attendee of Tech Ed 2006 will receive a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Beta 2 disc featuring a tonne of cool content including a fully functional vpc and training content.  I think that will do a lot for getting more and more people using this version which in tune will do wonders for the community in general.  Thumbs up to whoever pulled that off.  You can read more about this on Joel Oleson’s blog.

SharePoint 2007: Installation and Configuration

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

For those of us that grew up with SharePoint over the past 5 or so years, we know all too well the pains associated with the lack of resources early in the game.  That being said, I am continuously amazed at the excellent content being posted this early in the game on SharePoint 2007 and its associated features.

One perfect example comes from Harsh’s blog where he has written an excellent article on the details related to an SharePoint installation…Step by Step

Great use of screencaps and resource links. FANTASTIC Stuff!!  This is exactly the type of content the community needs to get more and more people running the latest bits, finding bugs and building enthusiasm over the new features.
